WIN Semiconductors Offers Free, Comprehensive ADS Design Kit for 0.15 um Power PHEMT Process

TAIPEI, TAIWAN, December 09, 2002 - WIN Semiconductors Corporation (WIN), the world leading pure-play and dedicated GaAs RFICs/MMICs foundry service provider, today announced the availability of a comprehensive process design kit for the Agilent Technologies EEsof Advanced Design Systems (ADS) simulation environment. The WPP15 Process Design Kit (PDK) is for WIN's state-of-the-art 0.15-micron Power Pseudomorphic High Electron Mobility Transistor (PHEMT) process that is in volume production.

The WPP15 PDK, developed in collaboration with Agilent Technologies, offers scalable models for PHEMT cells and passive components fabricated with WIN's advanced 6" GaAs wafer process. The kit incorporates a menu driven cell library that includes transistor models covering a wide range of gate periphery. A complex scaling rule embedded in the models fosters high accuracy that is confirmed through power loadpull measurements up to millimeter-wave frequencies. RF engineers benefit from the WPP15 PDK's ease of use and maintenance, which saves time and reduces cost over former methods of administering raw foundry standard cell models.

"Time-to-market is critical in the industry we serve and a significant differentiator for our customers. Product designers continuously strive to reduce their cycle time," said DP Mathes, vice president of WIN's Marketing & Sales group. "Working with Agilent, WIN gains the ability to provide a high quality design kit, to accelerate time-to-market, and to reduce product development costs for our customers. This new design kit enhances the product-design success of our customers as well as WIN's ability to attract customers."

The ADS PDK and its associated library cells and models are free of charge to WIN's foundry users and can be downloaded at www.winfoundry.com. WIN's 0.15um PHEMT process is optimized for a variety of applications including broadband communication, optical fiber communication, automobile radar, and homeland security systems.

"The popularity of the WIN foundry, coupled with the availability of WIN PDKs using Agilent's industry leading MMIC design tool solutions, provides customers extended value for their ADS software," said Jim Tabuchi, marketing and services senior manager at Agilent EEsof EDA. "The release of this Design Kit marks the beginning of the collaboration between our two companies to bring significant value to our shared customer base."

Process design kits are critical to the pure play foundry industry, and WIN is committed to developing and supporting design kits for all the processes it offers. WIN is extending this PDK development to other production processes, including the 0.5 um PHEMT, the 0.5 um PHEMT Switch, the 0.5 um E-mode PHEMT, and the 0.15 um MHEMT.
